Some quotes by Augustine

“He by whom all things were made was made one of all things. The Son of God by the Father without a mother became the Son of man by a mother without a father. The Word Who is God before all time became flesh at the appointed time. The maker of the sun was made under the sun. He Who fills the world lays in a manger, great in the form of God but tiny in the form of a servant; this was in such a way that neither was His greatness diminished by His tininess, nor was His tininess overcome by His greatness.”

“God became a human being, so that in one person you could have both something to see and something to believe.”

“He lies in a manger, but contains the world. He feeds at the breast, but also feeds the angels. He is wrapped in swaddling clothes, but vests us with immortality. He found no place in the inn, but makes for Himself a temple in the hearts of believers. In order that weakness might become strong, strength became weak.”

“He so loved us that for our sake He was made man in time, through Whom all times were made; was in the world less in years than His servants, though older than the world itself in His eternity; was made man, Who made man; was created of a mother, whom He created; was carried by hands which He formed; nursed at the breasts which He had filled; cried in the manger in wordless infancy, He the Word without Whom all human eloquence is mute.”

“Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” -C.S. Lewis

Hmm I suppose I should update everyone on life.

-I became a member at GBF and started serving on the music team.
-I also may start co-leading a Friday night Bible study with Kyle Asire.
-I bought a road bike and am just now getting used to the clipless pedals.
-I got my first ticket ever.  (Parked at a restaurant when the street sweepers went by; didn’t see the sign.)
-I may be getting a dog soon …
-Registered for a Project Management class from UC Berkeley extension.

Well, I thought I had more to say than that … more to come.

“‘He who is forgiven little, loves little.’ This small statement reveals a mammoth truth for us: we will love God to the degree that we recognize the magnitude of our sins and the immensity of God’s grace to forgive them.” -John Piper

Please pray for my friends, the Tumas. Dennis was the lead pastor at the church I was at in college, the Berkeley Mosaic. His wife, Vivien, has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma. They have six kids, and Dennis has to work to support them. My heart breaks for them, but I believe in a God who works miracles.

You can read about their struggles here (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/teamtuma/journal). They are unnervingly honest about their thoughts and feelings. They admit that they are angry at God and tell Him so. Vivien has emailed me and told me it’s been hard to read the Word. Still, they know in their heart that God is good. Regardless of what happens, may their faith increase, may their testimony bless others, may God’s will be done, and may He be glorified through this family and this trying situation.

Teach us to count our days. Teach us to make our days count.

I like Kris Allen. A Lot. He’s the first person I’ve ever voted for on American Idol. He just seems like an all around classy guy. Plus, I’ve loved the song arrangements he’s done and the song choices he’s made. I’ve been so happy ever since his win. I will definitely buy his cd once it comes out. Yay, Kris! I feel like such a nerd.

Wow, I haven’t blogged for quite a while.  Hrm.  There’s been a lot going on, so let me highlight a few items:

-Jenn and I are enjoying premarital counseling with the Varneys!  We’re learning a lot about each other.
-I’ve been meeting up with Scott Varney and Joe Tam every other week for discipleship/accountability.  That’s been a huge blessing.
-Jenn and I are going through the membership process at GBF as well.  I love being at GBF, and I’m grateful that God has blessed me with that church.
-I recently purchased a gas grill!  I haven’t brought it home yet, but once I get it, everyone is welcomed to my place for a barbecue.
-I spent the weekend in LA for Alex’s law school graduation.  It was incredibly, incredibly draining, but it was also great getting to hang out with a bunch of my friends.
-I also got to have a very long talk with Dan.  The two of us rode back up to Norcal together.  Dan’s a cool guy.  I’m glad I’ve gotten over being scared of him.
-I’m going to be my best man’s best man!  Wow, I’m totally excited.  I can’t wait for Tim’s wedding.
-Wedding planning has begun, and I’m already overwhelmed.  I can’t imagine how Jenn must be feeling since she’s spearheading most of it … haha.  Planning is definitely not my forte.  I don’t like worrying about all the details.
-KRIS ALLEN!  I hope he wins.  I haven’t really been invested in an American Idol contestant since Anthony Fedorov in season 4.  None of the people I really, really like ever make the finals (except for Kelly Clarkson!)  Jenn and I voted for Kris Allen for like an hour.  :D
-I feel like I haven’t been getting enough sleep.  I feel beat down and drained.  I’m looking forward to the long weekend, although I may be camping with a few GBFers, which may be more draining than relaxing.  Haha, it will be fun though; I’m just such an introvert.  :)
-I need my own Food Network tv show.  My culinary point of view would be “You can create delicious food using mainly canned ingredients!”  Haha.  I made awesome chili macaroni by boiling pasta, taking a can of spicy chili, adding a can of italian diced tomatoes, some fresh spinach, a stick of string cheese, and three hot dogs.  I poured the sauce over the pasta and voila.  Delicious.
-Glee is a pretty awesome show.  I really enjoyed the singing.

Hi guys, so I’ve been working with a few buddies on a little side project. Essentially it’s hot or not for rings. We just want people to show off their rings as well as view other people’s rings. Rings are pretty unique items, so it’s a great opportunity to view what’s out there. Plus, you can post / read how people proposed! Since it’s still in the early stages of development, there’s a lot more to come. Eventually we want to add the ability to include meta-data like the cut of the ring, the number of carats, and so forth, just so people have a reference point.

So, if you’re married or have married friends, please, please, please tell them about this site. We’re hoping to make at least enough money to cover hosting costs. :) We could really, really use your help in seeding the site too. We can’t actively marketing the site until we have a good number of pictures.

Here’s the site: Does it Sparkle? http://www.doesitsparkle.com

Thanks!
